Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is the name given to a mental health condition that can develop following a traumatic experience, witnessing or even just hearing about a traumatic event such as combat, sexual assault, natural disasters, or other violent personal assaults.
I believe PTSD is not as a disorder but rather a response from the brain as a result of repeated unresolved trauma.
PTSD does not only happen to war veterans or first responders, it can happen to anyone of any age.
It may surprise you to learn that it does not need to be a big incident either. PTSD can develop from repeated ongoing small traumas that were never fully resolved as far as the brain was concerned.
People with PTSD may have recurring, distressing memories of the event, avoidance of reminders of the event, and persistent symptoms of unexplained anger, avoidance, overwhelm and increased arousal or hypervigilance.
These symptoms can interfere with daily functioning, relationships and well-being, and can last for months or years if left untreated.
It is important to seek my experienced professional help if you are experiencing symptoms of PTSD.
