Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is the name given to a mental health condition that can develop following a traumatic experience, witnessing or even just hearing about a traumatic event such as combat, sexual assault, natural disasters, or other violent personal assaults.
Personally I see PTSD not as a disorder but rather a response from the brain as a result of repeated unresolved trauma.
PTSD does not only happen to war veterans, it can happen to anyone of any age.
People with PTSD may have recurring, distressing memories of the event, avoidance of reminders of the event, and persistent symptoms of increased arousal or hypervigilance.
These symptoms can interfere with daily functioning and well-being, and can last for months or years if left untreated.
It is important to seek experienced professional help if you are experiencing symptoms of PTSD.
